Sport Management

Internship and Field Experience

A significant advantage of George Mason’s Sport Management concentration is the opportunity to gain practical experience, hone necessary skills, and build practitioner networks through field experiences. The Sport Management concentration requires participation in field experiences. At the undergraduate level, a 3 credit hour field experience, and a 12 credit hour Sport Management internship are required.

Practical experience can be gained in any number of positions in the sport industry, including but not limited to sales, marketing, public relations, operations, facilities, and event management.

In each of these varied positions, the application of a variety of skills is necessary to meet the challenges of employment in sport enterprises. Additionally, building practitioner networks through contacts made during your internship can prove valuable in your career.

Sport Management field experiences for George Mason interns have included the United States Olympic Committee, Greater Washington Sports Alliance, NFL Players Association, Washington Redskins, Capitals, Wizards, Nationals, Mystics, Glory, DC United, Pittsburgh Pirates, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, Sixers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Octagon Worldwide, Potomac Nationals, Bowie Baysox, Verizon Center, Eagle Bank Arena, and George Mason Intercollegiate Athletics among many others.
